Mixed messages. I think they're saying: "Go ahead and come on to us. But if you come on too strong - watch out."

But maybe that's because I want to come on to them.

Actually, these boys are inspired by some street kids I met last month. They seemed to wear their homelessness like a transparent suit of armor. In a fascinating way it signaled both their hardness and their openness - an absence of any need to hide or disguise themselves. It gave me the feeling that, while I don't think I would want to live in the circumstances they do, it would be amazing to be able to see their world through their eyes for awhile.
